Slug, also known as SNAI2, is a transcription factor that belongs to the Snail family of proteins. It plays a crucial role in regulating epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), a process where epithelial cells lose their cell polarity and adhesion properties and gain migratory and invasive characteristics. This process is essential during embryonic development but has also been implicated in cancer progression and metastasis.
