The PI3K-Akt pathway is a critical signal transduction pathway that regulates various cellular functions such as growth, proliferation, and survival. PI3K (Phosphoinositide 3-kinase) is activated by various growth factors and hormones, leading to the production of PIP3 (phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-trisphosphate). This in turn recruits and activates Akt, a serine/threonine kinase, which then phosphorylates a range of downstream targets to exert its effects.
