What is the Role of Bacteria in Cancer Development?
Bacteria have been implicated in the development of certain types of cancer. For example, Helicobacter pylori is a well-known bacterium that has been linked to stomach cancer. Chronic infection with H. pylori can lead to inflammation and subsequent changes in the stomach lining, which can progress to cancer over time. Similarly, Salmonella and Escherichia coli (E. coli) have been associated with colorectal cancer through mechanisms involving chronic inflammation and the disruption of normal cellular processes.
