What Role do G-Protein Coupled Receptors Play?

G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are another critical receptor type involved in cancer. GPCRs are involved in transmitting signals from a variety of extracellular cues through the activation of G-proteins. Alterations in GPCR expression or function can contribute to cancer by affecting processes such as angiogenesis, metastasis, and immune evasion. For example, the aberrant activation of the CXCR4 receptor and its ligand CXCL12 have been linked to the metastasis of various cancers.
