Eligible applicants for SBIR funding include small businesses that are independently owned and operated, organized for profit, and have a place of business located in the United States. They must also meet specific size standards, generally having fewer than 500 employees. Importantly, the principal investigator must be primarily employed by the small business at the time of the award and for the duration of the project period.
