Biodegradable dendrimers can be engineered to carry therapeutic agents, such as chemotherapeutic drugs, directly to cancer cells. The surface of dendrimers can be modified to attach targeting ligands that recognize and bind to specific cancer cell receptors. This targeted delivery increases the concentration of the drug in the tumor microenvironment while minimizing exposure to healthy tissues, thereby reducing side effects.
