Cancer cells exploit the VEGF pathway to ensure a sufficient supply of nutrients and oxygen by stimulating the growth of blood vessels into the tumor microenvironment. This process is known as tumor angiogenesis. By secreting VEGF, cancer cells can increase vascular permeability and promote endothelial cell proliferation and migration, creating a network of blood vessels that supports tumor expansion.
