The procedure can be performed in different settings, depending on the type and location of the cancer. It can be done on an outpatient basis or may require a short hospital stay. The radioactive material can be delivered temporarily or permanently:
- Temporary Brachytherapy: Radioactive sources are placed in the body for a specified duration and then removed. - Permanent Brachytherapy: Also known as seed implantation, small radioactive seeds are permanently placed in the body, where they lose their radioactivity over time.
