Formaldehyde has been classified as a human carcinogen by several health organizations including the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Extensive research has shown that exposure to formaldehyde can increase the risk of certain cancers, most notably nasopharyngeal cancer and leukemia.
