What are the challenges in treating ALK-positive cancers?
While ALK inhibitors have shown great promise, several challenges remain. One major issue is the development of resistance to these drugs. Cancer cells can acquire secondary mutations in the ALK gene or activate alternative signaling pathways to bypass the inhibition. Additionally, the heterogeneity of tumors and the presence of multiple genetic alterations can complicate treatment strategies. Ongoing research aims to develop next-generation ALK inhibitors and combination therapies to overcome these challenges.
