A Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study (VFSS), also known as a modified barium swallow, is a specialized X-ray procedure used to evaluate swallowing function. During the procedure, patients consume a variety of food and liquid textures mixed with barium, a contrast material that shows up on X-rays.
