Medullary Thyroid Cancer (MTC) is a rare type of thyroid cancer originating from parafollicular cells, also known as C-cells. These cells produce the hormone calcitonin, which plays a role in regulating calcium levels. MTC accounts for roughly 3-4% of all thyroid cancers and can occur sporadically or as part of hereditary syndromes.
