In cancer cells, lipid droplets serve as reservoirs of energy and biosynthetic precursors, supporting rapid cell growth. They also play a role in protecting cancer cells from oxidative stress by sequestering toxic lipid intermediates. Targeting the formation and breakdown of lipid droplets is being explored as a potential therapeutic strategy.
