GVHD is a double-edged sword in cancer treatment. On one hand, it is a serious complication that can lead to significant morbidity and mortality. On the other hand, a mild to moderate form of GVHD can have a beneficial effect known as the graft versus tumor (GVT) effect. This occurs when the donor immune cells attack and destroy any remaining cancer cells in the recipient's body, potentially reducing the risk of cancer relapse.
