Gastrinomas are rare neuroendocrine tumors that originate from the gastrin-producing G-cells, primarily located in the duodenum and pancreas. These tumors cause an overproduction of the hormone gastrin, leading to excessive gastric acid secretion and potentially resulting in peptic ulcers. Gastrinomas are a significant component of a condition known as Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome (ZES).
