What are the Challenges and Future Directions in Targeting VEGFR-3?
Despite its potential, targeting VEGFR-3 presents several challenges. One major issue is the redundancy and compensation by other growth factor receptors, such as VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2. Additionally, the tumor microenvironment is highly complex and adaptive, often developing resistance to targeted therapies. Future research is aimed at developing combination therapies that can target multiple pathways simultaneously and identifying biomarkers to predict response to VEGFR-3 inhibitors.
