The risk factors for developing ONJ include prolonged use of bisphosphonates and denosumab, especially in higher doses. Other risk factors include dental procedures like tooth extractions, poor oral hygiene, and pre-existing dental conditions. Cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy or radiation therapy to the head and neck area are also at increased risk.
