RNA interference (RNAi) is a biological process in which small double-stranded RNA molecules, such as siRNA and shRNA, mediate the degradation of specific mRNA molecules. This prevents the mRNA from being translated into protein. In cancer therapy, RNAi can be used to silence oncogenes or genes that contribute to drug resistance and tumor growth.
