What Types of Mutations Lead to Oncogenic Activity?
There are several types of mutations that can lead to the activation of oncogenes:
- Point Mutations: Single nucleotide changes that result in a constitutively active protein. - Gene Amplification: An increase in the number of copies of an oncogene, leading to overproduction of its protein product. - Chromosomal Translocations: Rearrangements of chromosomes that place an oncogene under the control of a different regulatory element, causing its overexpression.
