The frequency of self examinations varies depending on the type of cancer:
Breast self examinations are generally recommended once a month, ideally a few days after the end of your menstrual cycle when breasts are less likely to be swollen or tender. Testicular self examinations should be performed once a month, ideally after a warm bath or shower. Skin self examinations should be done once a month to monitor for any new or changing moles or spots.
Consistency is key in self examinations to help you recognize any changes that might occur.
