Are There Therapeutic Strategies Targeting SMAD7 in Cancer?
Given its dual role in cancer, targeting SMAD7 for therapeutic purposes is challenging. Strategies to inhibit SMAD7 activity may be beneficial in cancers where it acts as an oncogene. Conversely, enhancing SMAD7 function could be therapeutic in cancers where it serves as a tumor suppressor. Current approaches include small molecules and RNA interference techniques to modulate SMAD7 activity. Further research is needed to develop effective and specific therapies.
