What Factors Can Inhibit T Cell Activation in Cancer?
Several factors can inhibit T cell activation in cancer. Tumor cells can create an immunosuppressive microenvironment through the secretion of immunosuppressive cytokines like TGF-beta and IL-10. Additionally, immune checkpoints such as PD-1/PD-L1 and CTLA-4 can be exploited by cancer cells to evade immune detection. These checkpoints are normally involved in maintaining self-tolerance and preventing autoimmunity but can be hijacked by tumors to inhibit T cell activation.
