Inhibitors of MCTs, particularly those that block MCT1 and MCT4, can disrupt the metabolic flexibility of tumors, potentially leading to tumor regression. Furthermore, therapies aimed at reducing lactate production or enhancing lactate metabolism in cancer cells could impair tumor growth and survival. This strategy might be particularly effective in combination with other therapies that target the unique metabolic vulnerabilities of cancer cells.
