Immune-related adverse events (irAEs) are side effects that occur when cancer immunotherapy treatments, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors, overstimulate the immune system. These treatments, although effective in enhancing the body's immune response to target and destroy cancer cells, can sometimes cause the immune system to attack healthy tissues and organs, leading to a range of adverse effects.
